deposition, Weathering, and Erosion
Every wonder how canyons were formed? Three steps of weathering, erosion, and deposition are what make it possible. The picture at the top of the page show Providence Canyon and its bumps and curves on the sides. This was caused by those three steps. First, the canyon was a plateau, a high, flat area. Next weathering took place. Weathering is the breaking down of rocks into sediments. Then, the sediment from the plateau got eroded away, or moved away. The sediment was then deposited. Deposition is settling or dropping of sediments, usually, when creating a canyon, sediments get dropped in oceans. That doesn't just happen with canyons though, weathering, deposition and erosion can happen to any sediment or sedimentary rock. For example, sand dunes can be blown by wind, which is the weathering, and erosion is when it's moved, and deposition is when it gets dropped. There are endless examples, but I'll leave you with those two.
